FPD-8010E Analysis System developed by Fuji Film for the study and analysis of Fuji Prescale pressure-sensitive films.

FPD-8010E - Analysis System for Prescale film: Overview

As better described on other pages of this same section, the Prescale pressure-sensitive film has the peculiarity of "coloring" according to different shades of red (magenta), which are a function of the surface contact pressure to which it is subjected. The distribution and density of the developed coloration are a function of the "mapping" of scala colorimetrica Prescale Film of the phenomenon applied and its magnitude, respectively. The Prescale pressure-sensitive film is normally supplied with an instruction sheet including a reference colorimetric chart, which allows for a visual comparison to assess the phenomenon recorded by the Prescale film. For most applications, this methodology is generally considered sufficiently reliable and accurate for evaluating the results obtained. However, there may be circumstances where visual assessment is not adequate or sufficiently repeatable, and additional needs (typically related to qualitative checks) may require documented measurements, managed as a true historical record of measurements. This allows for internal production comparisons to verify any trends in the controlled production process, enabling the anticipation of potential issues that need correction within certain margins. Logo Sistema di Analisi FPD-8010E For the cases described, or for situations where more in-depth analysis of the impressioned Prescale films is required for study and research purposes, the FPD-8010E analysis system developed by Fuji Film Japan can be used. The analysis methodology involves "scanning" the impressioned Prescale films using a scanner that has been pre-calibrated against the expected magenta density values for the Prescale films. The digitized images can be stored (as measurement history) on the hard disk of the PC where the FPD-8010E software is installed and can then be analyzed using its features described later. The FPD-8010E system thus consists of the image acquisition and analysis software (compatible with Windows™ platforms), a special cover for the scanner, a calibration sheet (necessary for calibrating the scanner), an instruction manual, and a license/agreement for use. The scanner compatible with the FPD-8010E is a commercially available device and can therefore be purchased separately. The FPD-8010E software, manual, and other documentation are available only in English.

FPD-8010E - Analysis System for Prescale film: Technology Overview

As shown in the photographic sequence below, using the FPD-8010E system is really straightforward. Prepare the previously impressioned Prescale film, ensuring it is clean from liquids, dust, or particles. Then, correctly position the film on the scanner (also following the suggestions provided in the manual). Digitize the impressioned Prescale film as an electronic image and save it on the hard disk of the PC where the FPD-8010E system software is installed. Proceed with the subsequent analyses.

FPD-8010E - Analysis System for Prescale film: Usage Instructions

As can be inferred from the relevant documentation, Prescale films impressioned by the analyzed phenomenon must be carefully stored, following the detailed suggestions provided in the reference literature. By utilizing the image digitization capability offered by the FPD-8010E system, it is certainly possible to protect the impressioned films from degradation caused by time, light, humidity, and any accidental contact (which can alter or "cover" the originally recorded event), thereby permanently and non-degradably storing the results of the conducted tests, and creating a historical record of measurements for future reference. In addition to this important action of storing measurements made with Prescale film, the FPD-8010E software offers another significant capability: the system is able to interpret the results of the conducted tests with much greater repeatability and accuracy than simple visual comparison with the provided colorimetric chart. In addition to these important functionalities, the FPD-8010E software provides a range of useful tools for further and more detailed analysis of the impressioned films and for simplifying their interpretation. A brief list of these tools is provided below.

OVERALL MEASUREMENT

Once the image is available in electronic format, numerous evaluations of significant interest can be performed. Among others, these include: the percentage of the surface affected by contact, the average and maximum pressure values recorded, the area of contact actually impressed, etc. Such important information can be obtained for the entire image or for specific and partial areas of it.

PARTIAL ENLARGEMENT

If it becomes necessary to view or analyze (for example, as described previously) specific or very small areas of the image under analysis, it is possible to zoom in on the area of actual interest. The user can specify an area within the digitized image, for which different levels of magnification are available (x 4, x 8, and x 16).

PRESSURE CROSS SECTION

Thanks to this functionality offered by the FPD-8010E system, the user can specify any point on the digitized image. The point defined by the user is "completed" by the system with intersecting lines (at the defined point), and in the upper and left areas, the respective pressure modules identified by the lines added by the system are graphically displayed, relative to the point(s) defined by the user.

WIRE FRAME

Among the additional features, the FPD-8010E system also allows for a three-dimensional visualization of the measurements made with Prescale, which can be requested in either monochromatic or color modes. The perspective of the resulting three-dimensional rendering can be changed by the user in four main directions to facilitate the examination of specific areas of the visualization, including those that are more recessed. none

POLAR COORDINATES SOFTWARE

By viewing the image using the section of the software dedicated to polar coordinate management, additional interesting functionalities can be obtained. Once the origin of the polar coordinates is defined, it will be possible to generate "cross section" diagrams with an angle specified by the user, as well as "circular" diagrams, or even histograms.

PRESSURE COLOUR BAR SETUP

Among the additional features offered by the FPD-8010E system is the ability to modify the original color correspondence (in other words, the range of magentas provided by the Prescale film) to other ranges defined by the user. By utilizing this capability, it is possible to display different pressure gradations in a manner that is more easily appreciated by the human eye. none
