Pressure-sensitive Prescale film for measuring the distribution of surface contact pressures at high temperatures, range HT-LLW: from 0.5 to 2.5 MPa (5 to 25 kgf/cm²; 73 to 363 psi).
Fuji Prescale Film HT-LLW: Overview
To confirm the undeniable maturity achieved by this type of product and the vitality expressed through the ongoing refinements and enhancements
made by Fuji Film to this product family, this preliminary document provides information about the new Prescale Film for high temperatures (from 180°C to 220°C),
with a measurement range from 0.05 MPa to 0.2 MPa (from 0.5 to 2 kgf/cm²; from 7.25 to 29 psi).
To address issues that can arise with the use of conventional Prescale film at high temperatures (e.g., color development in areas not subject to pressure,
base deformation, and adhesion between films A and C, etc.), Fuji Film now offers Prescale for high temperatures, where the film
support is made of PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) instead of PET, significantly minimizing many of these problems.
Although Fuji Film is still working on making these new Prescale films compatible with the FPD-8010E analysis software, it should be
noted that at present, this type of film can only be used with the colorimetric scale provided with the product for visual
assessment of the results. Further and more definitive information about the high-temperature Prescale Film will be made available
on these pages as soon as it becomes available.
Fuji Prescale Film HT-LLW: Key Features
immediate "mapping" of surface pressure distribution;
allows measurements between 0.5 and 2.5 MPa (5 to 25 kgf/cm²; 73 to 363 psi);
high repeatability of results in measurement campaigns;
good accuracy of measurements (±10% typical, with visual assessment);
usable at high temperatures (from 180°C to 220°C; from 356°F to 428°F).
Fuji Prescale Film HT-LLW: Technology Overview
Depending on their measurement range, Prescale films are available in two different formats: single sheet and double sheet. For lower measurement
ranges, Fuji Film's technology requires the use of two separate sheets (A and C), whereas for higher measurement ranges, a single Prescale sheet
is sufficient. The Prescale film with the HT-LLW range is only available in the double sheet version. This type consists of a first sheet called
Film-A, which has a very homogeneous layer of microcapsules (proprietary PSC - Particle Size Control technology) containing a dye, and a second
sheet called Film-C, on which the dye fixative agent is distributed.
When the Prescale film is subjected to surface contact stress, the dye microcapsules will break (in proportion to the applied contact pressure and
according to the distribution created by the areas actually stressed), causing the dye to be released and immediately fixed by the chemical reagent
present on the second sheet. Thanks to Fuji Film's technology, it is possible to produce films with microcapsule layers that have different and
optimizable breaking points during production. This essentially allows for the availability of various measurement ranges while ensuring high
repeatability and predictability of the breaking point.

Fuji Prescale Film HT-LLW: Usage Instructions
It is recommended to prepare the Prescale HT-LLW films well in advance of the test to allow the films (Film-A and Film-C) to acclimate to the
environmental conditions of temperature and humidity in which they will be used. Unroll an appropriate amount of film for the test to be conducted,
ensuring that it rests on a clean, dry surface, preferably in a dimly lit area. These preparatory actions will allow the films to lie flat,
simplifying the subsequent cutting and positioning operations described below. During these operations (and those that follow), place only the
glossy sides of the films on the work surfaces (the matte sides are, in fact, the ones that will collectively determine the density and
distribution of the recorded coloration), to avoid any accidental contact that could expose the films before the tests.
Proceed to cut the Prescale HT-LLW sheets to the desired dimensions using a simple pair of scissors. Since it consists of two films (Film-A and Film-C),
be sure to cut both films that make up the Prescale Film, ensuring that the defined dimensions are suitable for the area to be tested.
For the reasons previously mentioned, handle the Prescale HT-LLW with the utmost care and delicacy. Next, overlap the two films, ensuring that the
cut shapes align for both films. The films should be positioned with their matte surfaces facing each other (with the glossy sides on the outside);
take this into account during the cutting process.
After aligning the two films with their matte sides facing each other, place the resulting double layer in the area to be tested.
Then, apply the contact phenomenon to be studied in order to impress the Prescale.
For the methods and timing for reproducing the phenomenon being analyzed, refer to the instruction sheet provided.
Evaluate the results of the test using the instruction sheet provided with the Prescale, which includes a color chart and reference graphs.
The film will display the mapping of the contact areas detected, recording (according to the density of the developed color) the magnitude of the
applied pressure, which can be visually assessed by comparing it with the color chart included.
